Is Rihanna Getting Exploited?

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Does Rhianna have some secrets? Well, according to a certain men’s magazine, they have in their possession a certain video, and, well . . . we’ll just leave it at that. It appears that the singer is denying any reports that it’s true.

Now, there are two sides to the issue, and perhaps a little of both sides in each of us. There are those curious to see the tape, and those who feel morally wrong about wanting to see it. So let’s clear the deck here: it’s okay to want to see it, it’s only normal, but let’s hope that if it’s real, it never sees the light of day. We here at ChivCulture.com are about freedom of the press, but not at the expense of someone else’s freedom.

What Watch The Throne Means

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Jay-Z and Kanye West are the reigning kings of hip hop (unless you ask Rolling Stone, who says Eminem is) so we figured it was only natural that they name their album “Watch the Throne.” However, there was a little more to it than that.

Jay-Z said in a recent interview that the title was about making sure that hip hop, which is the music of choice for the youth culture, continues to stay. ChivCulture.com is ready and willing to embrace any initiative that keeps hip hop alive and well. Jay-Z is devoted to a movement he largely help build and so he’ll do anything can to protect that kingdom. This album is the first line of defense.

The Prince Gets Down with Kanye

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Kanye West made history when he bumped Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs by getting up on stage and interrupting her performance. Well, this time Kanye was asked to come up on stage by the pop legend Prince.

Yes, Prince, who was eccentric before Kanye West knew what eccentric was, pulled the “Watch the Throne” up on stage to get the crowd going. No, the crowd didn’t get to see anything more memorable than Prince on stage with one of the hottest rappers in the world today. For those that think Kanye was ahead of his time, check out the YouTube videos of Prince back in the day. We here at ChivCulture.com remember what Prince was like, and he was the true innovator of innovation.

Eminem Is King

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Do we have a new King of Hip Hop? According to Rolling Stone magazine, Eminem has taken that crown from whoever held it before. Now, this is sure to be met with a lot of debate, and while ChivCulture.com is certainly understanding of it, we feel like Eminem should get his due.

Not only is Eminem one of the biggest seller rappers in history, he’s also one of the most groundbreaking. Now, you might think that has something to do with skin tone, and you’re right. It’s not that white people can’t rap, but how many of them have stayed as relevant as Eminem has over the past decade? In hip hop, it’s not about what you are capable of. It’s how long you can do it for that really counts. Chivalrous Culture salutes you, Eminem.

The Myth of Detox Realized

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Is “Detox” finally dropping this month? Dr. Dre’s long awaited (and when I say long, I’m talking nearly a decade) follow up to the “Chronic 2001” could be dropping on July 26th. I know, I know, “Detox” has been in production so long, and its rumors so vast that it’s on par with Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster, but it could be happening.

Several hip hop outlets, including HipHopDx.com, are reporting that the album will be made available in the U.K for pre-order on July 25th. That would mean it’s going to drop here in the states a day later. I wouldn’t get your hopes up though. As much as we all want to see the master beat maker back with his sinister creations from the lab (with artists like Eminem), we know that Dre likes to take his time.

I know there is a lot of frustration from us fans because Dre seems to be dragging his feet on his next masterpiece, but let’s cut him some slack. If ChivCulture.com understands one thing, it’s that excellence takes time and planning. You can’t rush genius. Now, we aren’t quite the legend that Dr. Dre is, but we understand that Dre may not have more than one more record in him, so why rush it?

The way I see it, as long as Dre keeps hitting us with a single here or there I’ll be satisfied. After all, I don’t need the full scope of the album, just the beats and rhymes from time to time to get my fix.

How MeatLoaf Nabbed Hip Hop Legends

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

You want to talk about a trio you never thought you’d see in your life? How about Lil’ John, Chuck D, and . . . wait for it . . . Meatloaf. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. The legendary performer Meatloaf, whose trademark album Bat Out of Hell was a major hit back in the day, is getting back in the studio for a new set of tracks, and he’s enlisted the help of two of hip hop’s most daring and respected voices.

Now, there is nothing unusual about two hip hop artists looking to throw down with a rock legend, but Meatloaf isn’t exactly at the top of his game. However, anytime you put three great visionaries in the same booth, anything can happen. I know when they turn out it out I’ll be listening.

The Return of Andre 3000, but what about Outkast?

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Well, it can be confirmed that one of the greatest artists of all time, Andre 3000, is back in the studio and it’s like he never left. Hip hop has been working well in his absence but we all know that hip hop is always better when Three Stacks is back in action and wrecking beats with total disregard.

So where does that leave Outkast? Come on, you know that any talk of Andre or Big Boi was going to bring up the obvious. It’s been a long time since the super duo was back in effect and you know it would be a sight to see if these two super Giants found their way back into the studio.

So how do I know Andre 3k is back? Killer Mike broke the news on a radio interview. He said that Dre told him personally that he’s back to rapping. Killer Mike confirmed that he has hung out with the two of them at the same time recently.

We here at ChivCulture.com happen to know that there are whispers of one of the world’s great hip hop grounds lining up for another LP. The boys have their swagger times a million when they are in the studio making it happen. No one blends sizzling and sexy with swag and serves up slices of lyrical genius the way Dre and Big Boi do. We appreciate what they do so much, our swagger has doubled since talking about them. Let’s hope Killer Mike will let us know when they start making music magic.

Watch The Throne To Drop August 1

Monday, July 25th, 2011

The king of hip hop and the reigning prince of hip hop are about to light the world on fire with their collaborative LP, set to drop on August 1. Who am I talking about? Jay-Z and Kanye West, of course. That’s right, two of the greatest artists in the game are coming out with a joint album. This goes way beyond dropping a verse on someone else’s single. This is about melding two fantastic voices in hip hop and putting them all in the same place.

ChivCulture.com is all about this artistic collaboration. It was Kanye, the young and ambitious super producer who dropped the beats for six tracks on Jay-Z’s historic “The Blueprint.” From there Jay thanked his young producer by hooking him up with his own record.

Now these two are about to attempt something that has never been done on this scale: break the bank with a collaborative effort. Recently Royce Da 5’9 and Eminem released “Bad Meets Evil” to critical acclaim and commercial success. While you can argue Eminem is bigger than either Jay-Z or Kanye, you can’t argue that this album has far more star power.

Listen, I’m getting chills just thinking about how powerful this album is going to be. These two monsters of the rap game are about to let it all ride on the genius of Jay and the one-of-a-kind beats of Kanye. There is nothing light about this album. Our boys are going hard and they are about to take complete control of this rap game.

Hip Hop is Alive and Well

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Those who think hip hop is dead haven’t spent a second looking around. Hip hop is alive and well and may be approaching its apex in terms of the skilled MCs. Calling hip hop dead may the popular thing to do. It may be bold and brazen just for its own sake, but that doesn’t make it true. These days hip hop is firing on all cylinders.

Eminem, who was once the biggest thing in hip hop and then a forgotten man, has stormed back into relevancy in the music scene with “Recovery,” which shows that he’s not only back, but might be operating at a lyrical level that no one else in hip hop ever has.

For the reigning king of hip hop, Jay-Z, he’s managed to come out more commercially successful in the last few years then he has ever been. “Blueprint 3” blew up the charts and his touring with Eminem, as well as his collaboration with young stars like Drake and Lil’ Wayne, has managed to make him as relevant now as he has ever been.

The world of hip hop is not just alive, it’s doing well. Just like the spirit of ChivCulture.com, the world of hip hop is blossoming with its style and swagger. The music made from the biggest artists, fueled by the beats and style of this celebrating genre, is being played to the MP3 players and stereos of people all over the world.

Lady Gaga and Chivalrous Culture: Attitude Means Everything

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

lady gagaApparently MTV is familiar with the ChivCulture.com movement. On a recent special for Lady Gaga, one of the audience members in the front row was seen rocking a pair of Chivalrous Culture’s black high-top sneakers. Not only does it illustrate the influence that Diggy Simmons is having nationwide, but it goes hand in hand with the high mistress of fashion, Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga, no matter what your opinion is, cannot be known as anything but the most progressive woman in fashion. She doesn’t embrace fashion, but rather, she invents and then reinvents it again. Her shameless and bold sense of style have sent shockwaves through the music world since she burst onto the scene. It was like one moment she was there and the next she was everywhere.

What’s cool about Lady Gaga is her ability to take the most unconventional road to fashion and sell it more with her confidence than with its form or function. You must appear in control and confident to pull off what she does. Even Madonna, the high queen on progressive fashion never did what Lady Gaga has done.

Chivalrous Culture and Lady Gaga have the same idea, just wrapped in different packages. It’s about attitude, not money or status. Being original isn’t what you wear as much as it’s the way you wear it. It’s about presentation and great presentation comes with great attitude. Gaga has it. Chivalrous Culture has it. Do you have it?
